Singapore Math & Problem Solving
THIS PROGRAM IS OFFERED TO GRADES 6 – 8
January 15 – March 5, 2025 (8 lessons)
Every Wednesday 4:00pm – 5:30pm
Maximum 15 students; minimum 4 students
This class employs Singapore Math methods, adhering to the curriculum standards from Asia, to help learners gain confidence by mastering math skills and solving challenging word problems. Students will be taught according to their individual levels to build solid foundations. High-performing students will work on competition questions to apply and enhance their math and problem-solving skills. Math competitions include Math Kangaroo, the Waterloo Math Contest, and the Math Olympiad.
Singapore Math methods provide different visual ways of understanding math, particularly through the Singapore Bar Models approach. The learning journey begins with concrete and pictorial stages, followed by the abstract stage, enabling students to learn mathematics meaningfully. This approach encourages advanced (higher-order) thinking processes, communication of mathematical ideas, and effective problem-solving.
