About This Art Piece: The Artist’s Statement
“So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.” (Genesis 1:21 NIV)
The awe-inspiring beauty of God’s creation is the inspiration for this painting. I wanted to create a piece that would portray the intricate details of the nature around us. I used watercolour and gouache to paint the patterns of the fish, the glow of light rippling through the water, and the rich colours and hues of our world. God’s creation is the best source of inspiration, as He is the creator of everything.
Through this art piece, I want to evoke feelings of wonder towards our world and the nature around us. No pencil crayon, pastel, or paint can ever fully capture the true splendor of everything created by God, but we can still use our art to bring glory to Him. I also want to communicate the message of seeing beauty in the little things around us. Many things may get overlooked in the busyness of our lives, but God treasures each and every one of them. The Brook Trout, a fish hidden from view under the surface of the water, was created and loved by an almighty God.
The process: Even though this painting had its challenges, I still enjoyed several parts of the process of making this piece. I liked painting the head of the fish, as it gave me a chance to learn how to layer watercolour. I also enjoyed experimenting with highlights and shadows. Although they may be subtle, they enhance the overall appearance of a painting.
