PCA’s desire for student excellence in all subjects was on display in our Art Department recently. The level of expertise and professionalism of Mr. Luxemburger and Ms. Bartlett displayed was incredible!
On March 26th, PCA welcomed Mr. Les Luxemburger BES, MES, Visual Art Cert. (Sheridan) from the Fred Varley Art Gallery in Unionville. Mr. Luxemburger teaches the Group of Seven, Fred Varley style of painting to schools and has also taught at the McMichael Canadian Art Gallery. He is a full-time visual artist since 2011. This includes oil and acrylic painting, animation, life drawing, illustration, and pastel and mixed media. Mr. Luxemburger has exhibited his artwork in numerous galleries and exhibitions in Ontario. Some of his pieces are now in private collections around the world. He also has a Masters Degree in Environmental studies and links this knowledge with his Eco-Art shows. Mr. Luxemburger also devotes his expertise and time to youth groups within his community.
In addition, from April 21st-24th many JK to Grade 8 students enjoyed sessions with Artist Marion Bartlett BA Sociology, York University, Ceramics (Humber) and her assistant Leah, a Grade 12 Co-op student, working with clay. Marion Bartlett is a highly acclaimed professional artist who has received several awards including Brampton’s Arts Person of the Year and The Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal. She has 25 year’s experience teaching children pottery for Brampton’s Parks and Recreation Department and her sculptures are exhibited across North America. Her work can be seen outside the Walmart, Copper Creek, in Markham.
Her entertaining, professional, and informative teaching sessions allowed students to explore, create and work with clay. Once completed, Ms. Bartlett will take the students’ clay masterpieces to her studio to bake them in her kiln. The finished art pieces will be delivered back to PCA for painting in 7 to 10 days.
The level of professionalism and credentials of both Mr. Luxemburger and Ms. Bartlett demonstrates PCA’s commitment to providing superb experiences that are excellent additions to the current curriculum studied in class.
